Mahnomen County (trfnews.i234.me) — Daniel Deegan, 64, of Mahnomen, is charged in a traffic stop case. Police say he resisted arrest. Police also say he later threatened to kill an officer.

Deegan is charged with one felony count of Threats of Violence – Reckless Disregard Risk (609.713.1). He is also charged with one gross misdemeanor count of Obstruct Legal Process-Interfere w/Peace Officer (609.50.1(2)).
What the complaint alleges
According to the criminal complaint, the incident happened on January 18, 2026. The time was about 5:46 p.m. Police say an officer stopped a vehicle driven by someone with a revoked license.
Police say Deegan was the front-seat passenger. The driver was arrested, the complaint says. The officer then told Deegan to exit the vehicle.
Deegan refused, according to the complaint. Police say he used profanity and insulted the officer. Police say Deegan demanded the window be rolled back up.
The complaint says the officer tried to remove the keys from the ignition. Police say Deegan grabbed the keys and would not let go. The officer then moved to the passenger side, the complaint says.
Police say Deegan stood “square” to the officer. Police say he resisted being handcuffed. The complaint says the officer used force to secure Deegan’s arms. Deegan was then placed in handcuffs, the complaint says.

Threat during transport
Police say Deegan threatened the officer while being taken to jail. The complaint says Deegan said he would “f***ing kill” the officer. Authorities say the threat was captured on a body-worn camera.
Bail and court details
Bail was set at $1,500 by Judge Seamus Patrick Duffy with conditions.

Prior conviction noted
The complaint says Deegan was convicted of second-degree murder in December 2000.
