Thief River Falls – Linda Kolseth, 84, of rural Thief River Falls, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 17, 2026, at her residence.
Linda Lou Carolyn Iverson was born September 16, 1941, to Bertel and Louvina (Cook) Iverson at Mercy Hospital in Thief River Falls. She grew up on a farm northeast of Plummer, and attended Polar Glen School District 125 in Wyandotte Township in Pennington County and high school in Plummer.
She was baptized and confirmed and was united in marriage to Elmer Kolseth on September 26, 1959, at Clearwater Lutheran Church near Plummer. They made their home in Chicago, IL, for a short time working at J.C. Penney, returning to the Kolseth Family Farm rural Plummer that included small grain, hay and beef cattle.
In June of 1986, they purchased the grocery in Oklee and named it Dale’s Grocery, which they owned and operated for two years.
She liked the country life, raising their family on the farm. Blessed with four children: Janice, Dale, Brenda and Melissa, always busy. Linda enjoyed the simple things in life, mainly the outdoors – riding 4-wheeler, field work, driving tractor, yard work, morning gator rides, afternoon pickup drives, gardening, starting seedlings for the garden, planting just one more tree, feeding the birds, listening to country music, and quilting. She was excellent at baking and cooking, dancing, she loved to sew (she made her own wedding dress on the old treadle sewing machine) and made many alterations for her family through the years, liked to do wood crafts, and enjoyed buying and restoring antique furniture, and having an antique auction sale in 1991.
If her family needed help or advice or anything, Linda was always home until Elmer passed away, and then, you had to go find her working in the field.
She loved spending time with family and friends, surrounded by 8 amazing grandchildren, 6 great-grandkids, and her border collie dogs, Poppen and Daisy.
Survivors include her children, Janice (Bob) Johanning, Dale (Carol) Kolseth, Brenda (Randy) Brekkestran, Melissa (Duane) Parsley, all of Plummer; grandchildren, Ashley (Chris) Hamm, Nicole (Jacob) Kruchowski, Lisa (Cory) Schmitz, Josh Brekkestran, Natalie Brekkestran, Gus (Ashley) Bruggeman, Max (Bianca) Parsley, Sam (Kamryn) Parsley; great-grandchildren, Logan and Tucker Kruchowski, Eli, Jonah, Jude and Hazel Bruggeman, and Jaxon; and many other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Elmer, in 2004; and her parents.
The service to celebrate Linda’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 21, 2026, at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls with Rev. Timothy Lundeen officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Clearwater Cemetery, Wyandotte Township, Pennington County.
