WARREN, Minn. (trfnews.i234.me) – On January 2, 2025, Anders Odegaard was officially disbarred by the Minnesota Supreme Court, following his conviction for the murder of his ex-wife in August 2022. The disbarment came two and a half years after the incident, during which his ex-wife, Carissa, was killed while holding their youngest child.
Odegaard pleaded guilty to second-degree murder without intent as part of a plea deal and was sentenced to 220 months (approximately 18 years) in prison. Minnesota law requires that two-thirds of the sentence be served in custody, meaning Odegaard could be eligible for release after serving about 11 years.
Family members expressed dissatisfaction with the sentence, emphasizing concerns about the children’s safety and well-being after Odegaard’s potential early release. The sister of the victim hoped for a maximum 40-year sentence, stating that she wanted to ensure the children would not fear their father’s release.
Autopsy results confirmed that Carissa suffered a broken nose and oxygen deprivation. Additionally, a statement from one of the children indicated that Odegaard had been choking Carissa during the fatal incident.
The Supreme Court’s disbarment order highlighted the severe harm caused to the public as a key factor in its decision.
