GRAND FORKS, ND (trfnews.i234.me) A standoff that began at 6:30 Monday night continues in Grand Forks. One mother was evacuated from the building so fast her child was left alone sleeping in her crib. Includes interviews with people who were evacuated.
everyone Neil Berg here at 9:15 p.m. on a Monday night on 36th Avenue South the autumn air department just behind the 32nd Avenue South Walmart hadn’t fussen in here earlier this evening it hasn’t wrapped up yet police have barricaded up about a block area here apparently there was an incident on the second floor of this apartment building here the second one down see the lights on and back behind that not clear yet I just talked with the lieutenant Derick zimmel it’s not clear exactly what happened but some folks who live there they heard the reports that there was a man with a gun and whether or not he means suicidal threats or something to that nature isn’t clear yet heavy police presence here now he would either one building people are being kept out of the heartlands now one guys worry about it stole her you know better earlier we talked with a woman who’s a small child was still in the building it happened after the rouse husband it just went out to get gas or something like that and when if you ran down to get some laundry out of the laundry room and police SWAT team came through he had to leave the building child was left behind there’s these I was now seeing the child are fine they talked with her live a bit earlier you live in the building here do you will in fact to me know it’s going on your something all right how about you we’re uh yes we’re recording now for a okay broadcast so what have you heard about well I hear when animals are gone in the buildin I’m he’s a phone people just a Hale Boyd and Dustin all I have so I’m not sure how many people and the building so I hope he’s going to be over soon I hope nobody is going to go does what happened um I don’t know as I know as I was coming outside and and there’s a there was a cop there and he had a big rifle and he told me I had to either get inside for safety or I had to get out because there’s something going on and he wouldn’t let us know or anything and my daughter was locked in and I have to get her out and she she’s out he got her out now she’s safety base inches with me and everything good now we just we just can’t get in the build and he said it could take five minutes to ten hours we don’t know how long we’ll get back in our builders so there’s a lot of folks stuck out of their apartments tonight no do you want to fit in this event is all scary where’s the woman’s child I’m going to pull their head right there wonder baby hey can I talk to you again for a later broadcast legged are you doing okay okay okay she has the interest pretty interesting story here so your child accidentally got left in there well I went downstairs to check the mail and then I was chilling on someone to check it out went back inside and I said we do evacuate my boyfriend went ran does again written to the gas station left real quick and he wasn’t there so he said come outside backup and we asked if he gets my daughter they said no no one could get in the building school she was the left their sleep yeah she was called to sleep in her crib guess that’s what I get for leaving to check them out right so anyway she didn’t even know what happened you got a job perfectly fine all right that’s good to hear yes thank you okay just a recap here again Neil Berg here on 36th Avenue South we had an incident view earlier this evening it’s not wrapped up yet man an apartment statuary apparently with a John had a suicidal or made a threat to talk to the Senate the Derick zimmel it’s not clear what happened yet but the SWAT team is also here apartments have been evacuated you spend 36 Avenue South Autumn Ridge Apartments the right behind the Walmart on 32nd Avenue South this time we don’t know if they’re negotiating with the man yet or exactly what’s happening there’s a heavy police presence in the area block is sealed on we’ll keep you updated if there’s any new information that this thing gets resolved or whatever happens we’ll give you our report as soon as that happened in Grand Forks I’m Neil Berg reporting for i-news that’s you
