Becker County (trfnews.i234.me) — A rural Lake Park man faces a felony assault charge. Court records say an EMT was hurt.

Prosecutors charged Gage Michael Halverson, 20, in Becker County District Court. The case follows a Jan. 11 call in Lake Park.

Lake Park is in Becker County, near Detroit Lakes. Deputies respond to many calls across the county.

What court records say

Court records say deputies went to a Lake Park address. The call involved a family dispute.

Another family member also called the deputies. That person said they were worried about safety.

Deputies tried to calm Halverson, records say. Halverson told deputies he was intoxicated.

Authorities arrested Halverson for an alleged probation violation. Records say the violation involved alcohol use.

Deputies put him in handcuffs and called an ambulance, records say.

Inside the ambulance, an EMT tried to secure a latch on a harness buckle. Records say Halverson grabbed the latch.

The complaint says he squeezed the EMT’s finger hard. A red mark was reported in the filing.

Prior history and the charge

Court records say Halverson has two or more domestic violence-related convictions. The filings cite the past three years.

Minnesota law defines fifth-degree assault in Statute 609.224. It can include fear of harm. It can also include bodily harm.

Charges are allegations. The case must be proven in court.

Bail and next hearing

On Jan. 12, the court set bail or bond at $30,000 with no conditions. The court also set $15,000 with standard terms.

Those terms include no alcohol use and no drug use. The order also lists no contact with the victim.

Court filings listed a Feb. 9 appearance before Judge Gretchen D. Thilmony. Hearing dates can change.
