Karlsruhe Man Killed in Crash Near Velva
Velva (trfnews.i234.me) — A 67-year-old Karlsruhe man died Tuesday morning in a crash east of Velva.
The crash happened at about 7:30 a.m. on September 22.
It occurred at 44th Street North and 12th Avenue North.
The intersection is about three miles east of Velva.
Pickup and Freightliner Collide
According to the North Dakota State Patrol, a 2012 GMC Sierra was traveling west on 44th Street North.
A 2004 Freightliner was traveling east on the same road.
The Freightliner was pulling a dump trailer at the time.
Investigators said the Freightliner began turning north onto 12th Avenue North.
The commercial vehicle then struck the Sierra in a right-angle crash.
The impact was described as a T-bone collision.
The 67-year-old Sierra driver suffered fatal injuries.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
His name was not included in the initial news release.
Freightliner Driver Not Injured
The Freightliner driver was a 46-year-old man from Parshall.
He was not injured in the crash.
Both drivers were wearing seatbelts, according to the State Patrol.
Road conditions were dry when the crash happened.
The weather was clear and sunny.
Authorities did not announce any charges in the initial report.
The crash remains under investigation.
Several Agencies Responded
The North Dakota State Patrol is leading the investigation.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene.
Velva Fire and Ambulance assisted with the emergency response.
