John P. Woods – Obituary

John Philip Woods passed on September 26, 2024, on a beautiful fall day with family by his side at Sanford. He was born to William Arthur Woods and Annie (Maltman) Woods on February 8, 1932, and was raised on the family farm in Forest River, ND where he graduated from high school in 1950.

He then attended Longview College in Washington State for one year and returned to Grand Forks to attend UND where he graduated in 1955. Upon graduation from UND, he entered the Army as a Lieutenant and was stationed in Germany until 1957.

John and Leta Nelson were united in marriage in September of 1960 after meeting years earlier when he was in college. He was employed by General Motors, and they moved to Bismarck and then Fargo and had 2 children, Roxanne and John. He spent his career at Job Service of ND for 30 years and had friendships from there that continued to his passing.

In retirement, he became even more involved with the Fargo Amvets Post #7 where he was a Past Commander and Amvet of the Year. He volunteered weekly at the VA Hospital and Hjemkomst Center in Moorhead, MN for many years and was a long-time member of First Presbyterian Church Fargo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Dallas, Raymond, and Robert; sister, Louise; and sister-in-law, Pat.

He is survived by his children, Roxanne (Richard) Meyer of West Fargo, ND and John (Deanna) Woods of Prescott Valley, AZ; grandchildren, Sarah and Katlyn Woods; sister-in-law, Donna Woods; and many nieces and nephews.
