Jim Scheef, 46, of Fisher, MN passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2026 at his home from natural causes.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 10, 2026 at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Reverend Kristin Ostercamp officiating. Burial will be held at Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls, MN.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 9, 2026 starting at 5:00 PM with a prayer service at 6:30 PM at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the church on Friday.
Jim Thomas Scheef was born in Thief River Falls, MN on June 25, 1979 to Tom and Becky (Coan) Scheef. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith. He attended Goodridge School and graduated with the class of 1998. He enjoyed playing basketball in high school.
During the summer of his high school years, Jim stayed with his grandparents, Jack and Marge Scheef at the Northwest Angle. He worked as a dock boy and helped guide at Jake’s Resort where he made lots of friends and also helped his grandma Marge at the restaurants. While in high school he was employed at the St. Hilaire Elevator and with his dad at the Feed Plant.
After graduation, Jim attended Northland Community and Technical College. While attending college, Jim worked for Excel Dairy near Thief River Falls.
Jim worked for Pepsi in Thief River Falls and Warroad, driving truck and distributing product around the area. Jim moved to Grand Forks and worked for Concrete Inc, later known as Wells Concrete. Jim was currently employed by the City of Grand Forks as heavy equipment operator and Thorson Farms during beet harvest.
Jim was united in marriage on June 10, 2006 to Julie Reichert in Grafton, ND. To this marriage, two daughters were born, Halle and Lydia. Later in the marriage, the family was joined by Chelsey Johnson.
Jim loved being with his family and friends. He enjoyed farming with his grandparents, Bud and Betty Coan. Jim enjoyed being outdoors, especially hunting, a good game of corn hole and spending time with friends around a campfire. Jim was always willing to lend a helping hand.
Jim enjoyed throwing darts and belonged on a dart league.
Jim was a member of the Thunder on Hooves committee. He enjoyed working the chutes in the Thief River Falls Bull Ride and the Binford, ND Bull Ride.
Jim is survived by his daughters, Halle and Lydia; bonus daughter, Chelsey Johnson; parents, Tom and Becky Scheef of Thief River Falls, MN; brothers, Travis (Sara) Scheef of Thief River Falls, MN, and Cole (Kaylani) Scheef of Goodridge, MN; nieces and nephews, Bria, Blake, James, Jack, Vera, and Iva; grandma, Marge Scheef-Kosmatka; aunt, Judy Larson; uncle, Mike (Toni) Scheef; and several cousins and friends.
Jim is preceded in death by his grandparents, Jack Scheef and James (Bud) and Betty Coan; aunts, Julie (Donnie) Grabowska, baby girl Coan, Connie Faye Coan, and Theresa Scheef; uncle, Roger Larson; and several relatives and friends.
