Jackson County: 80-Year-Old Killed in Hwy 71 Crash
JACKSON COUNTY, Minn. (trfnews.i234.me) — An 80-year-old Mountain Lake man died Sunday evening after a collision involving a semi on Highway 71.
The Minnesota State Patrol identified the man as Glen Edward Letellier.
The crash happened at about 6:53 p.m. on October 5 in Christiania Township.
The collision occurred near mile marker 19 on Highway 71.
Ford and Semi Collide at Intersection
According to the State Patrol, a semi was traveling north on Highway 71.
A Ford driven by Letellier was turning south onto Highway 71.
The two vehicles collided in the intersection, according to the crash report.
Letellier suffered fatal injuries.
He was wearing a seat belt when the crash occurred.
The Ford’s airbag deployed, according to the State Patrol.
Alcohol was not suspected in connection with Letellier.
Semi Driver Not Injured
The second vehicle was a 2015 International semi.
It was driven by Colin Lamar Hooley, 24, of Plymouth, Indiana.
Hooley was not injured in the collision.
The State Patrol report lists him as not wearing a seat belt.
Alcohol was not suspected in connection with the semi driver.
Road conditions were listed as dry at the time of the crash.
State Patrol Report Shows Vehicle Discrepancy
The State Patrol’s narrative identifies Letellier’s vehicle as a Ford Taurus.
However, the vehicle section of the report lists a 2015 Ford Fusion.
TRF News is noting both descriptions because they appear in the official crash information.
The exact Ford model does not change the reported circumstances of the fatal collision.
Multiple Agencies Respond
Several emergency and law enforcement agencies assisted at the scene.
They included fire and ambulance crews from the Windom and Jackson areas.
County sheriff’s offices and local police departments also responded.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources assisted as well.
