Impaired Driving Leads to Head-On Crash with School Bus

A Hillsboro school bus was traveling south on Traill County Road 81 when a northbound Chevrolet Monte Carlo crossed the centerline and entered the bus’s lane. The bus driver attempted to avoid the collision by steering right, but the vehicles collided head-on.

Fortunately, there were no students on the bus at the time. The driver was on the way to the first pickup stop. The bus driver was wearing a seat belt and was not injured. The driver of the Monte Carlo was not wearing a seat belt and sustained minor injuries.

The driver of the Monte Carlo was arrested for DUI involving drugs, with an additional charge of reckless driving recommended to the State’s Attorney’s Office.

This crash is a reminder of the dangers impaired drivers pose to everyone on the road at any time of day or night, including school buses transporting our children. Thankfully, no students were on board when this crash occurred. The bus driver was driving safely and defensively!

  1. Wtf is wrong with ppl these days! Like it’s 2026 and people still drive impaired!?? Should be special rules for ppl driving under the influence like mandatory immediate jail for at least one year! Maybe that’ll make ppl think twice about getting behind the wheel
