Houston County: Hwy 16 & 61 Crash Injures Iowa Driver

LA CRESCENT, Houston County (trfnews.i234.me) — A two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Highway 16 and Highway 61 injured one driver late Friday night. The collision happened at 10:27 p.m. on November 21. The Minnesota State Patrol released the report just after midnight.

According to the State Patrol, a 2022 Toyota Corolla was traveling westbound on Highway 16. At the same time, a 2004 Ford F-150 was traveling northbound on Highway 61. The vehicles collided in the intersection. Road conditions were dry at the time of the crash.

The Toyota Corolla was driven by Whitney Ann Hewitt, 30, of Brownsville. She was not injured. A passenger, Brianna Grace Cline, 29, of Lakeville, was also uninjured. Both were wearing seat belts. Alcohol was not involved.

The Ford F-150 was driven by Edward James Mather, 63, of Boone, Iowa. He suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Winona Health. The report states he was wearing a seat belt. Alcohol was not a factor.

The Houston County Sheriff’s Office, La Crescent Police Department, and La Crescent Fire Department responded to the crash. Tri-State Ambulance provided medical care and transport. Traffic delays were brief as crews cleared the intersection.

Intersection collisions often happen when drivers misjudge speed, distance, or right-of-way. Troopers urge motorists to use added caution at major junctions, especially during evening hours.
