High Winds Rekindle Fire at Grand Forks Landfill
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (trfnews.i234.me) — High winds on Monday morning are fanning the flames of an ongoing fire at the Grand Forks Landfill. According to the Grand Forks Fire Department, the fire has actually been smoldering for about a month, but strong winds have reignited visible flames.
Fire crews were called out around Monday morning to the area near the water treatment plant adjacent to the landfill. Officials report that the situation is under control and that the landfill crew is containing the fire within the site. There is currently no danger to nearby property.
Witnesses described seeing “spectacular flames” visible from nearby roads as winds intensified across the Grand Forks area. The fire department continues to monitor the scene, ensuring the flames do not spread beyond landfill boundaries.
High winds and dry conditions have caused issues across the region in recent days. Officials are reminding residents to use caution with outdoor burning or disposal of flammable materials.
