Becker County, MN (trfnews.i234.me) — Levi Roland Hansmeier was charged in Becker County District Court for felony fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle and gross misdemeanor driving while intoxicated.
On July 22, a White Earth police officer responded to an investigation of a child custody dispute. The mother reported that her son was taken by the biological father in a black Ford Explorer.
The officer observed Hansmeier’s dark Ford Explorer at M&W gas pumps and activated his emergency lights as he sped away from the area. He ran a stop sign, turned east on Becker County Highway 34, and left the White Earth area heading east through Pine Point before returning toward Detroit Lakes with the officer in pursuit.
The high-speed chase continued for nearly 60 miles throughout Becker County until Hansmeier was finally stopped north of Four Corners gas station on County Road 29. A woman passenger was detained along with him.
Officers found two baggies containing a crystal-like substance near where the vehicle was stopped, but they did not field test positive for any controlled substances and were sent to the Minnesota BCA for testing.
After being detained, Hansmeier appeared sweaty and his pupils non-reactive to light. A search warrant was obtained for a sample of his blood or urine. He admitted he had been handed some drugs and told to swallow them before being taken to Essentia Hospital for medical clearance and later jailed.
On September 25, bail or bond with no conditions was set at $35,000, non-cash bond with conditions at $5,000, and cash bail with conditions at $500. His next court appearance is scheduled for November 15 before District Judge Doug Clark.
