GRAND FORKS, N.D. (trfnews.i234.me) – A Grand Forks man, Paul Smith, has been charged with multiple offenses after leading law enforcement on a high-speed chase. Charges include simple assault, unlawful use of license plates, possession of stolen property, weapon law violations, fleeing on foot and in a motor vehicle, reckless endangerment, and more.
On November 11, a deputy observed Smith’s vehicle in the 300 block of Cottonwood. Running the license plates revealed expired tabs from September 2021. When the officer initiated a stop, Smith fled, exceeding speed limits, ignoring stop signs, and narrowly avoiding a collision with a minivan.
During the pursuit, Smith reportedly threw objects from the vehicle and rammed a patrol car. A PIT maneuver eventually disabled his vehicle. Smith attempted to escape on foot but was subdued after resisting arrest. Investigators discovered stolen plates and brass knuckles in the vehicle. Additional charges include possession with intent to deliver and possession of drug paraphernalia.
