GRAND FORKS, ND (trfnews.i234.me) — Shawn Michael Johnston, 32, is currently registered as homeless within the city of Grand Forks. According to a press release issued by the Grand Forks Police Department on October 18, Johnston has been assigned a high-risk level by the North Dakota Sex Offender Risk Assessment Committee.
Johnston’s two convictions for corruption/solicitation of a minor include a 2013 conviction for having intercourse with a 16-year-old girl when he was 20 years old. His second conviction in 2017 involved forcing a 17-year-old girl to have sex with him when he was 22 years old.
As a result, Johnston has been assigned a high-risk level by the risk assessment committee, which means he is required to register as such and undergo regular verification of his status through the Offender Tracking and Verification Program (OTVP).
The Grand Forks Police Department tracks and verifies the location of individuals who were convicted of sex offenses or offenses against children. This includes contacting offenders at least once a month to verify their information.
There are currently 115 registered offenders within the city, with seven classified as high-risk. Johnston is one such offender who has been assigned this level due to his convictions.
Anyone with questions regarding the OTVP or information about unregistered offenders should contact Cpl. Mike Munkeby of the Education and Outreach Bureau at (701) 787-8083 or mmunkeby@grandforksgov.com.
