Henning Woman Faces Felonies After Crash Injures Son
HENNING, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – A 38-year-old Henning woman is facing two felony charges after authorities allege she was driving under the influence of alcohol when she caused a two-vehicle crash that left her young son with multiple fractures.
Danielle Charmaine Kopp, 38, has been charged with two counts of criminal vehicular operation resulting in substantial bodily harm in Otter Tail County District Court.
The charges stem from an August 12, 2026, crash on Minnesota Highway 210 near 535th Avenue in Inman Township.
Woman Ejected From Vehicle During Highway 210 Crash
According to the criminal complaint as described in a published report, Minnesota State Patrol troopers responded to the collision and found Kopp’s vehicle overturned in a ditch.
Kopp had reportedly been ejected from the vehicle and was found on the ground nearby.
Investigators reported finding two 50-milliliter vodka bottles near her, one empty and the other unopened.
Her young son remained restrained by a seat belt in the back seat of the vehicle.
Child Suffers Multiple Fractures
According to the complaint, Kopp’s son suffered serious injuries, including fractures of his tibia and fibula, pelvis, rib, and collarbone, along with a stretched ligament in his neck.
He was initially taken to a local hospital before being flown to Sanford Health in Fargo for additional medical treatment.
The Minnesota State Patrol’s public crash record identifies Kopp’s vehicle as a 2003 Oldsmobile Bravada and the other vehicle as a 2008 Toyota Tundra.
Other Driver Describes Collision
The other driver told investigators that he observed Kopp’s vehicle drift onto the highway shoulder before swerving back across the roadway and colliding with his truck, according to the complaint.
The State Patrol’s initial crash report states that the collision occurred in the eastbound lane of Highway 210.
Alcohol Tests Reportedly Above Legal Limit
According to the complaint, Kopp acknowledged to first responders that she had consumed alcohol.
Investigators reported that a preliminary breath test showed an alcohol concentration of 0.157.
A subsequent blood test reportedly produced a result of 0.138.
Both reported readings exceeded Minnesota’s legal alcohol concentration limit of 0.08 for driving.
Two Felony Criminal Vehicular Operation Charges
Kopp faces two felony counts of criminal vehicular operation causing substantial bodily harm.
Under Minnesota Statute 609.2113, subdivision 2, each count carries a maximum possible penalty of three years in prison, a $10,000 fine, or both.
These are potential statutory penalties, not a sentence imposed in Kopp’s case.
No plea or final court disposition was established by the information reviewed for this report.
Readers can search available court information through Minnesota Court Records Online.
The charges remain allegations. Kopp is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
