On Saturday, July 13, a distressed woman called 911 to report being abused by her boyfriend, Christ Rud, over the past week. The call, which originated from a home in the 34700 block of Hwy. 32 N.E. in rural Middle River, was disconnected before dispatch could gather more information. When deputies arrived at the location, a man claimed to be the only person present and unaware of any emergency. However, upon further investigation, deputies found the girlfriend hiding in the garage, who reported multiple assaults by Rud.

Details of the Allegations

  • Assault and Threats: The girlfriend, who is two months pregnant, reported that Rud had assaulted her four times and brandished a black pistol, pointing it at her and threatening to kill her.
  • Interference with Emergency Call: Rud allegedly broke her phone when she attempted to call 911.
  • Possession of Firearm: After an extensive search involving the Marshall County Sheriff’s deputies, Minnesota State Patrol, and a Polk County K9 and search and rescue drone, Rud was found in a tent near the property. Inside the tent, law enforcement discovered a black backpack containing a loaded Hi-Point 40-caliber pistol, additional magazines, and ammunition, along with mail and pill bottles bearing Rud’s name.

Rud was arrested at approximately 11:50 a.m. on July 13 after being located by the search team. During questioning, Rud denied possessing the firearm and claimed ignorance about the backpack and its contents. He also attempted to deflect blame by suggesting that his girlfriend had been hitting herself.

The complaint indicated Rud’s extensive criminal history, including charges and convictions for multiple domestic assaults, stolen vehicles, selling weapons, and various thefts and burglaries.
