GRAND FORKS, ND (trfnews.i234.me) Two Grand Forks woman had a creepy encounter on this Wednesday. It included them pulling out a fishing knife and pepper spray. * Check back Thursday for more on this developing story.
Bob Carlson here on the phone with me is a young woman we’re not going to identify in Grand Forks who was with her friend, another female who was a minor at a scary incident today. Um, tell folks what happened. Um, so the past couple days, August 24th and August 25th, there was a man who would meet me in the same spot on the way to my fishing spot at Lincoln Park. The first day he was making small talk, asking what I was doing, and the second day, um, my friend was with and he asked our ages and he kind of followed us to the fishing spot a little bit. not all the way to a fishing spot. Um, and then asked how old her little brother was, too, who we were going to take with us, which he wasn’t there at the time, so I don’t know how he knew the little brother was there. And the whole time he was recording us each day. And then today, we made a report on it. And not even an hour after we made the report of him stalking us, he showed down up at the river with a hat that he had grabbed from my car saying, “I have your hat.” And we told him to, you know, you know, stay back, get away, and he said, “It’s okay.” And he kept coming towards us, coming towards us. And we had weapons on us. And he kind of backed up a little bit, went into the tall ground. >> When you say you had weapons on you, >> fishing gear, >> your fishing knife. >> Yeah. Okay. All right. >> And pepp and pepper spray. Um so we were scared. Dispatch was telling us to hide in bushes and or hide somewhere. We were stuck on the roof. We had to go. Um and he was in the in the tall grass. So we lost him. We could he was coming closer and closer and I yelled out, “The police are on their way.” And then next thing you know, the police are there. They came very quickly because as soon as I saw his head coming towards us, a head coming towards us, I told my friend, “Call 911.” So, dispatch was awesome and the police were awesome about it. But I just want all the girls out there to know to be careful when you’re out there alone fishing on the river because there are a lot of creepy people down at the river. >> Okay. All right. And as I said, we’ll be talking to police and uh see what happened with all this uh from a legal standpoint. Glad you’re okay. Take care. >> Okay. Thank you. >> Now, I talked with Sergeant Everheart of the Grand Forks Police Department as of this uh Wednesday afternoon. Charges have not been formally filed yet. Sergeant Everheart says the suspect at this point is just looking at a disorderly conduct charge. Uh, but the case is still under investigation. Uh, we’ll keep you updated. I’m Bob Carlson reporting for trfnews.i234.me.
