Grand Forks police said they got a report on Saturday.
Police said a staff member tried to get sexually explicit images from students.
Officers said the investigation continued through the weekend.
Arrest and possible charge
Police served a search warrant at a Grand Forks home at about 11 a.m. Monday.
Police said the search and earlier work led to an arrest.
Malaun Nelson, 31, of Grand Forks, was taken into custody, police said.
Police said Nelson worked as a classroom specialist at Valley Middle School.
Police sent a proposed charge to the State’s Attorney for review.
The charge is promoting or directing an obscene sexual performance by a minor.
Police described it as a Class A felony.
Grand Forks County prosecutors will decide what charges, if any, are filed.
Nelson is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

School district response
Police said the Grand Forks Public Schools district was told about the report.
Police said the district has worked with investigators during the case.
Possible additional victims
Police said they believe there may be more victims.
They said some students may not have been identified yet.
