Grand Forks (trfnews.i234.me) – A Moorhead woman is now facing a felony theft charge in Grand Forks after what prosecutors say is her fifth shoplifting offense in the city. The latest case marks an upgrade from misdemeanor theft to felony theft of property.

According to court documents, Salina M. Artley was stopped on November 11 at the Grand Forks Menards store. Staff reported that she attempted to leave the building with about $12 worth of unpaid merchandise hidden inside her purse. Workers contacted police, who detained her outside the store.

The criminal complaint states that Artley admitted to taking the items. During the initial contact, she also gave the police a false name. Officers later confirmed her identity and found a history of prior theft cases in Grand Forks. Because this incident is her fifth shoplifting arrest in the city, the charge was elevated to a felony under North Dakota law.

Artley is charged with felony theft of property and misdemeanor providing false information to law enforcement. She was arrested and taken to the Grand Forks County Correctional Center. A judge will review the charges during upcoming court appearances, and additional conditions may be ordered.

Prosecutors noted that repeat theft cases are treated more seriously due to their impact on local businesses and law enforcement resources. Felony theft can carry higher fines and possible jail time if the court finds the offense meets the necessary legal requirements.

The case remains open, and more documents may be filed as the investigation moves forward. Court schedules and filings are available through the North Dakota Courts public portal. Information about state theft laws can be found at the North Dakota Century Code.
