Grand Forks Shelter Stabbing Suspect Ordered to Undergo Mental Evaluation

GRAND FORKS, ND (trfnews.i234.me) — In November 2024, a 44-year-old man named Moses G. Ayom was arrested following an incident at the Northlands Rescue Mission, a homeless shelter in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Ayom is accused of stabbing a 37-year-old man, identified as Travis Vigen, multiple times with a pocket knife. The attack was reportedly unprovoked, and the two men did not know each other.

Following the stabbing, Ayom allegedly stole a pickup truck from a nearby construction site and led law enforcement on a pursuit through Grand Forks and Walsh counties. The chase ended when the vehicle became immobilized in a field, and Ayom was taken into custody without further incident.

During questioning, Ayom claimed that President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris had “pressured” him to commit the stabbing. He referenced a comment by President Biden, interpreting it as labeling supporters of former President Trump as “trash,” which he cited as motivation for his actions.

Ayom has been charged with attempted murder, vehicle theft, fleeing in a motor vehicle, reckless endangerment, and reckless driving. The court has ordered a mental evaluation to assess his competency to stand trial, placing the proceedings on hold until the evaluation is completed.
