GRAND FORKS, ND (trfnews.i234.me) – Grand Forks resident Amy Swanson has issued a heartfelt shout-out to the Grand Forks Police Department for their swift and effective response on Saturday night. The incident occurred near Ben Franklin Elementary School, where police apprehended a suspect in Swanson’s garage before she even realized there was an intruder.
Swanson recounted her experience: “Last night, my kids and husband went to set off fireworks in the country, leaving me home alone. I was about to go into the garage to get some dirt out of the wheelbarrow and work on my plants. Suddenly, I noticed police surrounding my house. I stayed inside, knowing my back door was unlocked. The police later informed me that a criminal had been found in my garage. A drone had tracked him to my neighborhood and into my garage. The officers on the ground were wonderful, and I felt safe despite the confusion.”
The suspect was successfully apprehended thanks to the quick and coordinated efforts of the Grand Forks Police Department. Swanson’s main message is to praise the police for their outstanding job and to remind residents to lock their doors.
In a touching side note, Swanson shared the recent passing of her father, Jay Depalo. Jay was a beloved figure, known for his generosity after 9/11 when he and a companion drove a truckload of teddy bears to schools near the epicenter of the tragedy in New York City. Our condolences go out to Amy and her family during this difficult time.
