Grand Forks Police Warn of Impending Major Flood Stage, Downtown Sorlie Bridge Closure Expected Sunday

GRAND FORKS, ND (trfnews.i234.me) The Red River at Grand Forks-East Grand Forks is now forecast to hit major flood stage. Police tell TRF News the Sorlie Bridge downtown may have to be closed on Sunday.
here’s a look at the swollen red river at east grand forks grand forks at 6 00 p.m on this saturday it’s risen some 17 feet since yesterday and uh weather service now forecasting a crest of 48 48.5 or yeah 48.5 feet by wednesday putting it into major flood stage uh the record-setting flood of 1997 was 54.3 feet uh so uh not far below that some six feet however you can rest assured the current dike system now protects the cities to some uh sixty feet however it could cause some problems here as it rises just talked with the east grand forks uh police department who say maybe by sunday morning the sorely bridge may be closed off uh crossing that on downtown on demers avenue that could also quickly cause problems getting across the point bridge which uh the east grand forks side goes under i can’t remember the exact level but it’s around that level so uh no word yet on whether the flood gates will uh go in the flood walls in downtown grand forks tomorrow we’ll keep you updated as the red river here at grand forks east grand forks flexes its muscle on a saturday set to crest at 48.5 feet on wednesday and again that’s well within the existing dyke system i’m Neil Berg reporting for trfnews.i234.me
