Grand Forks Pharmacist Charged in $15K Drug Theft

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (trfnews.i234.me) – A Grand Forks pharmacist faces multiple felony charges after allegedly stealing thousands of dollars worth of stimulant medications over nearly a year. According to court records, 36-year-old Brayden Peter Joseph Trontvet has been charged with three felonies and two misdemeanors related to the theft and misuse of controlled substances.

Trontvet is charged with Class B felony theft between $10,000 and $50,000, Class B felony deceptive writings over $10,000, and Class C felony acquiring a controlled substance by misrepresentation or fraud. He also faces two Class A misdemeanors for possession and ingestion of a Schedule II stimulant. A Class B felony in North Dakota carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.

The case began on May 16, when the owner of Walls Medicine Center contacted the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI). The owner alleged that Trontvet, who worked at Walls Long Term Care on Eighth Avenue South, had been stealing stimulant medications between June 2024 and May 2025. Investigators say Trontvet used deceptive prescription entries and labels to conceal his actions, printing a label, then canceling the prescription seconds later to make it appear unfilled.

Security footage from April 30 allegedly showed Trontvet placing a container of pills in a bag and hiding it under his workstation before leaving with the same bag at the end of the day. The stolen drugs were valued at more than $15,600, including Vyvanse, Concerta, Focalin, Ritalin, Adderall, and Jornay PM—all prescription stimulants commonly used to treat ADHD.

According to investigators, Trontvet later admitted he had been stealing the medications for about a year to help manage social anxiety. He reportedly said he never sold or shared the pills and that it was “pretty easy” to manipulate the pharmacy’s inventory system. The pharmacist has since been released on a $10,000 cash or surety bond.

Trontvet appeared in court on Thursday, Oct. 16, and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing and arraignment on Nov. 24 at 9 a.m. The North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation continues to handle the case.
