GRAND FORKS COUNTY – TRF News – A pedestrian was struck by a pickup truck in downtown Grand Forks on Wednesday afternoon, prompting a police investigation.

According to the Grand Forks Police Department, officers were dispatched at 3:12 p.m. to the intersection of South Fifth Street and Kittson Avenue for a vehicle-pedestrian crash.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a black 2023 GMC Sierra was turning north onto South Fifth Street from Kittson Avenue when it struck a pedestrian who was crossing in a designated crosswalk.

The pickup was driven by 46-year-old Monica Aguirre of East Grand Forks. The pedestrian was identified as 64-year-old Grand Forks resident Patrick Peltier.

Peltier was transported by Ultra Ambulance to a medical facility for treatment of apparent minor injuries. Authorities say the crash remains under investigation to determine all contributing factors.

The area was temporarily impacted by emergency response crews, and police remind drivers to remain vigilant when approaching intersections, particularly those with crosswalks. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration provides resources on pedestrian safety for both drivers and walkers to help prevent such incidents.

Updates will be provided as more details become available from investigators.
