Grand Forks Man Wanted Nationwide for Alleged Sexual Assault in Detroit Lakes

Detroit Lakes (trfnews.i234.me) — Eric Cervantes, 29, of Grand Forks, has been charged in Becker County District Court with two counts of felony third-degree criminal sexual conduct.

According to court documents, on July 8, 2024, Detroit Lakes police responded to a sexual assault report at the Lakes Crisis and Resource Center. The victim stated she met Cervantes at a West Lake Drive restaurant on July 5 and later went to his hotel room, where consensual sex initially occurred. However, later that night, Cervantes allegedly forced himself on her despite her resistance and repeated pleas to stop.

Cervantes is also on probation for a prior misdemeanor sexual assault conviction in Grand Forks County and faces an additional warrant for a separate Becker County case involving fifth-degree criminal sexual conduct.

A nationwide warrant was issued for Cervantes on March 14.
