Grand Forks (trfnews.i234.me) — A Grand Forks man is facing new charges after police say he resisted arrest and threatened officers during a late-night traffic stop.
According to court records, officers pulled over a vehicle around 2 a.m. on August 11, 2025, after the driver failed to make a complete stop at a stop sign.
The driver, identified as Kelly Cleven, was informed by police that his Minnesota driver’s license was suspended. Records show Cleven disagreed, claiming it was not suspended, and became confrontational.
Police say Cleven then exited his vehicle and walked away from the scene, ignoring commands to stop. When officers attempted to detain him, Cleven resisted arrest before being taken into custody.
While being transported to the Grand Forks Correctional Center, Cleven allegedly made around 60 threats to kill officers, according to court filings.
This is not Cleven’s first confrontation with law enforcement. Records show he was arrested on a terrorizing charge on July 31, 2025, less than two weeks before the most recent incident.
Cleven now faces additional charges, including resisting arrest and making terroristic threats. The case remains under review by prosecutors.
