Grand Forks County (trfnews.i234.me) — Emergency crews responded to multiple reports of a man in the Red River in downtown Grand Forks on Tuesday evening. Authorities say the man is safe after leaving the water on his own.
Witnesses told TRF News the incident began near Lincoln Park, where the man entered the river. He reportedly traveled downstream before getting out of the water near downtown Grand Forks. Police were called from both sides of the river, and several units responded to the scene.
A relative at the scene told our reporter that the man is homeless and had been struggling with frustration. According to the family, he had jumped into the river and, at one point, claimed he was simply bathing. They said they followed him along the riverbank until he climbed out of the water on his own.
Police confirmed that the man refused assistance and shouted profanities at officers during the response. No injuries were reported. Officials say he is safe and did not require medical care.
This incident drew multiple calls from bystanders concerned for the man’s safety. Authorities encourage the public to continue reporting suspected emergencies, as quick action can prevent potential tragedies.
