Grand Forks County (trfnews.i234.me) – Moses Garang Ayom, 45, of Grand Forks, has been ordered to return to the North Dakota State Hospital for forced treatment, after being deemed unable to communicate effectively with his attorney due to not taking prescribed medication.
Ayom faces seven charges, including:
-
Attempted murder with a dangerous weapon (Class A felony)
-
Theft of a vehicle valued $10–$50K
-
Aggravated assault, fleeing police, reckless endangerment, and two misdemeanors
The charges stem from a violent stabbing incident on Nov. 1 at the Northlands Rescue Mission. Ayom allegedly stabbed a man in the back, puncturing his lung, and fled the scene in a stolen Dodge Ram 3500, leading police on a multi-agency chase.
Ayom later admitted to the stabbing, citing racial motivations and referencing political figures Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, whom he claimed pressured him. He reportedly stated the U.S. is “at war.”
Judge Kristi Venhuizen ruled Ayom must be forcibly treated so he may become competent for trial. Defense and prosecution agreed that this is the best step forward.
