GRAND FORKS, ND – A Grand Forks man is facing a felony theft charge after allegedly stealing multiple tools from a construction company that had previously fired him.
According to court documents, between October 2023 and February 2025, Matthew John Hinze reportedly took various tools belonging to his former employer. The investigation uncovered that one of the stolen items, an electrical generator, had been pawned for cash. Authorities were able to trace the generator back to Hinze through a pawn shop ticket.
When questioned about the theft, Hinze claimed, “I thought it was my generator.”
Hinze is now facing legal consequences as the case moves through the court system.
