On July 18 at 12:45 a.m., police received a report of a violation of a protection order. Adam Thomas Nelson, 38, from Grand Forks, N.D., has been charged with a felony violation of the order. The complaint was officially filed on August 5, and a warrant has been issued for his arrest.

According to the complaint, Nelson was already out on conditional release for a felony domestic assault charge from April. Despite the protection order, Nelson allegedly sent a text message to his ex-girlfriend that included a photo of another woman in lingerie. The phone number used to send the message was confirmed to match Nelson’s number on record with the police department.

The complaint also noted that Nelson has two prior domestic assault convictions from 2021. The recipient mentioned past messages from Nelson via WhatsApp, though she was unable to provide evidence linking them directly to him.
