GRAND FORKS, N.D. (trfnews.i234.me) – A Grand Forks man is charged with felony theft after allegedly stealing $37,721 from a safe at the Long Haul Saloon, located at 4720 Gateway Drive.
Police arrested Andrew Helfenberger on November 4 following the execution of a search warrant. Court records indicate Helfenberger, an employee at the Grand Forks Blue Line Club, reported the theft after arriving for his shift on October 27 and finding the safe empty. The safe reportedly contained between $30,000 and $50,000.
The bookkeeper of the Blue Line Club confirmed the safe held $37,721 in locked money bags earlier that day. Surveillance footage shows a man matching Helfenberger’s description tampering with the safe and removing the cash.
A search of Helfenberger’s apartment revealed $21,681 in cash and a deposit slip for $4,100. Approximately $16,040 remains unrecovered. Helfenberger’s bail is set at $50,000, and his next court appearance is in December.
