Grand Forks County: Man Charged in Violent Domestic Assault
GRAND FORKS COUNTY (trfnews.i234.me) — A Grand Forks man is facing multiple felony charges following a brutal domestic assault that left a woman with stab wounds and other serious injuries.
According to Grand Forks Police and court documents, officers responded to a residence at approximately 9:30 a.m. Monday after reports of a violent domestic incident. Upon arrival, officers located a female victim suffering from stab wounds to her ear, which required stitches. She also told investigators that the suspect had nearly choked her into unconsciousness while threatening to kill her several times.
The suspect, identified as Mario Alexander Rivera of Grand Forks, was arrested at the scene. Police seized the knife believed to have been used in the attack as evidence.
Rivera has been formally charged in Grand Forks County District Court with four felonies: domestic violence, felonious restraint, terrorizing, and attempted interference with a 911 call. He remains in custody pending further court proceedings.
Authorities say the victim is recovering from her injuries. The case underscores the serious and ongoing threat of domestic violence within local communities. Victims of abuse are encouraged to seek immediate help by contacting the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233 or local law enforcement.
