Grand Forks Man Charged After Pedestrians Hit

Grand Forks (trfnews.i234.me) — A Grand Forks man faces three attempted murder charges after a Wednesday evening crash.

Police identified the suspect as Ian Matthew Schneeweis.

Officers were called around 5:40 p.m. on September 23, 2026.

The incident happened in the 1600 block of South 16th Street.

Police received reports of a reckless driver who had struck a pedestrian.

The vehicle then hit a tree, leaving it disabled, according to police.

Police Say Several People Were Involved

Investigators said Schneeweis was driving a 2007 Honda Accord.

Police said the car struck two pedestrians during the incident.

The vehicle also struck another motor vehicle.

Investigators said the Honda then hit the entrance of an apartment building.

A third pedestrian was also involved but was not injured.

Police said that person took cover behind the tree that the vehicle later struck.

The two injured pedestrians were taken to Altru Hospital.

Police said their injuries were not considered life-threatening.

Police said the driver ran from the crash scene.

Officers found Schneeweis a few blocks away and placed him under arrest.

He was also taken to Altru Hospital for medical treatment.

After being medically cleared, Schneeweis was booked into the Grand Forks Correctional Center.

He faces three counts of attempted murder and additional criminal charges.

Police have not released more details about what led to the incident.

Authorities have also not provided a full list of the additional charges.

The investigation remains active.
