Grand Forks Couple Charged with Child Abuse and Drug Crimes
GRAND FORKS, ND ( trfnews.i234.me ) — A Grand Forks couple is facing multiple felony charges after police say they used meth while a young child was present in their home, and the child was found with a burn injury.
According to court documents, officers responded to a Grand Forks residence on October 16th for a report of a domestic dispute. When police arrived, they identified the individuals involved as Rolando Garza Jr. and Candice M. Brown. Both admitted to using methamphetamine earlier in the day while a child was inside the home.
Authorities say the child, who is under six years old, had a visible burn mark on their leg, reportedly caused by a lighter. The incident led to both Garza and Brown being charged with felony child abuse and child endangerment.
During the booking process at the Grand Forks County Correctional Center, officers discovered that Garza had meth hidden inside his sock. He now faces an additional felony charge for possession of a controlled substance in a correctional facility.
The child has been removed from the home and placed under protective care as the investigation continues. Both suspects remain in custody pending their initial court appearances.
