Grand Forks County (trfnews.i234.me) — A high-profile trial in Grand Forks County has reached a dramatic conclusion! Jeffrey Simpson Jr., accused of opening fire on SWAT officers during a tense standoff, has been convicted on all charges, including attempted murder.
Simpson, 30, was confronted by the Grand Forks SWAT team on March 22 of last year when they attempted to arrest him on multiple felony warrants. Instead of surrendering, he opened fire, prompting a chaotic scene. SWAT officers managed to take him into custody after he attempted to flee on foot.
The jury has now spoken—Simpson is guilty on all counts, including four counts of attempted murder, burglary, domestic violence, and terrorizing. He had previously pleaded guilty to some charges in a plea agreement, but the jury found him responsible for every remaining charge.
With sentencing set for April 9, Simpson could face life in prison.
