Grand Forks County (trfnews.i234.me) — We now have an official update regarding the gun threat incident that unfolded earlier today at an apartment building in Grand Forks County.
According to a statement from a Grand Forks Police Department sergeant, officers were dispatched to 1706 Continental Drive following a 911 call reporting a man in the hallway of the building, allegedly threatening to kill people. A witness also stated the man was visibly carrying a handgun.
Upon arrival, officers quickly located the suspect’s apartment. Due to the nature of the threat, additional officers and the Grand Forks SWAT team responded, evacuating several nearby apartments as a precaution.
Authorities negotiated with the suspect, who after about 45 minutes, surrendered peacefully. The suspect, identified as Elroy Thomas, age 54, was arrested on an outstanding warrant. Police say additional charges are likely as the investigation continues.
Thomas is currently being held at the Grand Forks County Correctional Center.
Further updates are expected as this case progresses.
