Grand Forks County (trfnews.i234.me) — In a disturbing turn of events out of Grand Forks County, Moses Ayom, a homeless man accused of stabbing a victim at the Grand Forks Mission, has been ruled mentally unfit to stand trial, at least for now.
The incident began when Ayom allegedly inflicted life-threatening stab wounds on a male victim, stole a nearby construction truck, and led law enforcement on a 50-mile high-speed pursuit before being stopped east of Park River. He now faces five felony charges, including attempted murder, theft, aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon, fleeing, and reckless endangerment.
What makes this case especially shocking are Ayom’s statements to the police. According to court documents, Ayom claimed the stabbing was completely unprovoked and stated that he chose the victim because he was white. He further alleged that President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris “pressured” him to mobilize because of a comment Biden had made, which Ayom interpreted as calling them “trash.” He also bizarrely claimed that “we, the US, are at war.”
A judge ruled on Monday, via Zoom appearance from the state hospital in Jamestown, that Ayom is not mentally competent to stand trial at this time. The case has been delayed until June.
