Grand Forks County: Man Pleads Not Guilty in Shooting Case

Grand Forks County (trfnews.i234.me) — A Grand Forks man has pleaded not guilty to attempted murder and several other felony charges after a shooting that left another man with multiple gunshot wounds during an early morning confrontation.

Mugshot of De’Angelo Cortez Brent

The suspect, 29-year-old De’Angelo Cortez Brent, waived his preliminary hearing on Monday, November 24, and entered a plea of not guilty. Brent is charged with Class A felony attempted murder with a firearm. A conviction could bring a sentence of up to 20 years in prison.

Brent also faces four Class C felonies. Those charges include aggravated assault, terrorizing, reckless endangerment, and criminal mischief, causing damage between $2,000 and $10,000. Court filings outline the charges in detail.

The shooting happened around 4:30 a.m. on August 31, according to a probable cause summary. A group of people arrived at a home in Grand Forks. Brent allegedly drove up to the residence. He had his windows down and began arguing with a woman in the group.

The woman stood on the porch with Antonio Delon Locke of East Grand Forks. Brent then pointed a handgun at Locke and fired several shots, according to the summary. Locke was struck multiple times.

Bullets also hit the home and a neighboring residence. Court records say a child was inside the area at the time. No injuries to the child were reported.

Locke was taken by ambulance to Altru Hospital. Court documents say he required surgery due to the gunshot wounds. No current medical update has been released.

Brent remains in custody on a $250,000 cash-only bond. A hearing to review that bond amount is set for 1:30 p.m. on December 5. His next scheduled appearance, a final dispositional conference, is set for 1:30 p.m. on January 8.

More information on North Dakota felony classifications is available through the North Dakota Courts.
