GRAND FORKS COUNTY (trfnews.i234.me) — A Grand Forks man is facing serious felony charges after police say he secretly recorded juvenile girls by hiding cameras in a bathroom.

According to court documents, Dana Lance Smith, of Grand Forks, was arrested after investigators discovered two hidden cameras disguised as everyday items inside a local apartment.

On September 10, detectives with the Grand Forks Police Department executed a search warrant at an apartment in the city. During the search, officers found two covert recording devices — one hidden inside a charging block for an electric shaver, and another concealed inside an item resembling a shaving cream can.

Investigators also seized SD cards containing nude images of a juvenile girl. Police say the material was taken from the hidden cameras without the victim’s knowledge.

Smith is now charged with 10 felony counts of surreptitious intrusion, a Class C felony under North Dakota law. Each count carries a potential sentence of up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.

The North Dakota Court System lists Smith’s first appearance as pending. Authorities have not released further details on how long the cameras were active or the number of victims involved.

Police remind residents to stay alert for hidden recording devices in rental properties, shared housing, and other private spaces, and to report suspicious findings immediately.
