Grand Forks County (trfnews.i234.me) — A Grand Forks man is facing several felony charges after an early morning domestic incident.

According to court records, officers were sent to a home on November 26 at about 2:57 a.m. The call was reported as a physical domestic situation.

Police say the suspect is named Lac Q. Tran of Grand Forks. A family member told officers that Tran threatened them with a cleaver and scissors.

The family member said they feared they would be hurt. They reported that Tran held the cleaver and scissors while making threats.

Witnesses told officers that Tran stabbed a sofa during the incident. They also said he slashed or punctured a framed family portrait on the wall.

Court documents list damage to the furniture and the portrait. That damage is part of the criminal mischief count.

No physical injuries to people were reported in the home. Officers still documented the reported threats and the damaged property.

Prosecutors have now charged Lac Q. Tran with three felonies. He is charged with terrorizing, domestic violence, and criminal mischief.

The case is filed in Grand Forks County District Court. Future hearing dates will appear on the public court calendar at ndcourts.gov.

Under North Dakota law, a terrorizing charge can apply when a person makes threats that cause serious fear. Domestic violence charges can apply when those threats or acts happen within a family or household.

Court records note that all charges are accusations at this stage. Lac Q. Tran is presumed innocent unless a judge or jury finds him guilty.

Help for people facing domestic abuse is available in North Dakota. Statewide resources and local shelters are listed by CAWS North Dakota. Victim help and rights information is also posted by the North Dakota Attorney General’s Office.

More details on this case may be released in future court filings. TRF News will follow any major updates.
