Grand Forks County (trfnews.i234.me) – A shocking confrontation over money nearly turned deadly on the night of June 10, as a man allegedly attempted to slash another man’s neck with a box cutter, according to newly filed court documents.
Grand Forks Police responded to the scene following a report of a man threatening another with a weapon. When officers arrived, they found both the victim and the suspect, later identified as Hector Sanabria-Gomez.
Through an interpreter, the victim stated he had been sitting outside when Sanabria-Gomez approached and accused him of stealing money—an accusation the victim denied. Moments later, Sanabria-Gomez allegedly pulled out a box cutter and swung it at the victim’s neck, barely missing. The victim quickly fled inside to report the attack.
Building surveillance footage reportedly confirmed the victim’s account, showing Sanabria-Gomez standing over the seated man and making a swinging motion with an object in his right hand.
Police say they recovered the box cutter directly from Sanabria-Gomez at the scene. He now faces felony charges of terrorizing and attempted aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon.
