Grand Forks County (trfnews.i234.me) — A tense armed situation unfolded Monday afternoon in Grand Forks County at the Islamic Center on 17th Avenue South, directly across from Red River High School, which was closed for the Easter holiday.

At approximately 2:26 p.m., police were called after reports that an armed man had forced another individual to drive him to the Islamic Center at gunpoint. A large law enforcement presence, including both police and sheriff’s deputies, quickly surrounded the building, securing the area while evacuating people from inside.

After a standoff lasting more than half an hour, the suspect was safely taken into custody. No injuries were reported. The incident caused widespread concern, especially given the proximity to the high school and the religious facility involved.
