Four People Reported Injured

Sarah Kotrba suffered serious injuries in the crash.

The complaint says she had a fractured vertebra, concussion, and broken thumb.

Gemma Jade Kotrba, 15, suffered a broken ankle.

The complaint says screws were needed to repair the fracture.

Layken Nicole Kotrba, 12, suffered a concussion.

The injury affected her school attendance, according to the complaint.

She also needed care from a concussion specialist.

All occupants in the Kotrba vehicle were wearing seat belts.

Daigle’s passenger was also hurt in the crash.

Ebony Markendra Wallace, 32, of Roseau, was found in a neck brace.

She was inside a Goodridge Fire & Rescue van after the crash.

The complaint says Wallace had trouble speaking with authorities.

No further details about her injuries were listed.

Daigle also reported an injury.

He said he may have suffered a broken foot or ankle.

Drug Use Alleged In Complaint

The complaint says authorities noticed signs of marijuana use while speaking with Daigle.

Daigle allegedly admitted smoking marijuana that morning.

He said he heard the rumble strips and tried to stop.

He told authorities he was unable to stop before the crash.

Gemma Kotrba told investigators the Buick did not appear to slow down.

She also said it did not appear to brake.

A blood sample was later taken under a search warrant.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension report allegedly found THC and a cocaine metabolite.

Daigle allegedly said he last used cocaine about one week earlier.

The complaint also says Daigle was on supervised probation in Roseau County.

That probation involved a controlled substance offense.

Court records say Daigle had prior drug convictions in January 2025.

Those cases involved felony third-degree drug possession and gross misdemeanor fifth-degree drug possession.

Case information may be available through the Minnesota Judicial Branch.

Daigle is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
