Gary Address Case Leads to Felony Registration Charge

Gary (trfnews.i234.me) — Ronalda Myra Smith faces a felony charge over an alleged predatory offender registration violation.

Prosecutors allege Smith failed to properly update her registered home address with Minnesota authorities.

The charge covers an alleged period from March 12, 2021, through July 23, 2025.

The case is filed in Norman County District Court.

A conviction could bring up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

Verification Letter Returned

The investigation followed information from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, according to the complaint.

The BCA contacted Norman County authorities on July 23, 2025.

A registration verification letter had been mailed earlier that month.

The United States Postal Service returned the letter to the sender.

Smith’s last registered address was listed in the Gary area of Norman County.

The complaint states Smith was required to keep her home address current with the BCA.

Authorities also reviewed earlier registration checks involving Smith.

Those checks followed other returned compliance letters, according to the complaint.

One check was completed in March 2021.

Another was conducted in March 2024.

Reports from those checks allegedly indicated Smith had not lived at the Gary address for several years.

Prosecutors allege Smith knowingly failed to properly register her actual address.

The complaint does not provide a newer address where authorities believed Smith was living.

The law sets registration requirements for people who are legally required to register.

It requires registrants to provide and maintain certain address information.

A knowing violation of those requirements can result in a felony charge.

The statute provides a maximum sentence of five years in prison.

It also allows a fine of up to $10,000.

The case is State of Minnesota v. Ronalda Myra Smith.
