GRAND FORKS, ND (trfnews.i234.me) – Collin Wade Posey, a 32-year-old man from Fort Totten, is now facing additional charges after allegedly attempting to escape custody following his arrest after a tense standoff with Grand Forks law enforcement. Posey, already charged with multiple Class C felonies, including escaping a felony arrest and possessing contraband useful for escape, could face up to five years in prison.

While receiving medical treatment at Altru Hospital on July 28, authorities acted on a tip and discovered Posey had hidden a butter knife, a disconnected phone, and other makeshift tools in his room, suggesting an escape plan. Posey became agitated, pulling out his IV, leading to his transfer to the Grand Forks County Correctional Center. Later, hospital staff found that the handrail Posey had been handcuffed to was sawed apart, adding further damage charges to his record.

Posey’s next court appearance is scheduled for September 23.
