Flash Flood Warning Issued for Grand Forks and Polk Counties Amid Heavy Rain and Severe Storms

GRAND FORKS, ND (trfnews.i234.me) – The National Weather Service in Grand Forks has issued a Flash Flood Warning for Grand Forks and Polk Counties this Tuesday morning. Heavy rain and severe thunderstorms have been pounding the area since midnight, with wind gusts reaching up to 55 mph.

Forecasters predict continuous rain for the next few hours, with a potential break around 9-10 a.m. However, more rain is expected later in the day, with showers and thunderstorms likely before 1 p.m. Some storms could be severe, producing heavy rainfall. The high temperature is expected to reach 68°F with winds shifting from the east to the southwest, gusting up to 25 mph.

Tonight, there is a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms between 8 and 9 p.m., with cloudy skies gradually clearing and a low around 48°F. West-northwest winds will be gusty, reaching up to 20 mph.

At 3:19 a.m., Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain, leading to flash flooding in low-lying areas, streets, and underpasses. The warning remains in effect until 9:30 a.m. Residents are urged to avoid flooded areas and remember, “Turn Around, Don’t Drown.” Most flood-related deaths occur in vehicles.
