Fergus Falls Man Charged in $845 Walmart Theft

Fergus Falls (trfnews.i234.me) — A Fargo man faces a gross misdemeanor theft charge in Otter Tail County.

Sultan Jamal Osman is accused of taking more than $845 in merchandise from a Fergus Falls Walmart.

The alleged theft happened on August 17, 2025, according to an Otter Tail County criminal complaint.

Surveillance Video Reviewed

Police reviewed a Walmart loss prevention report during the investigation.

Investigators also examined surveillance footage from the store, according to the complaint.

The video allegedly showed Osman moving through the store while placing merchandise inside a shopping cart.

Prosecutors say Osman eventually entered the meat department.

He allegedly waited until fewer people were nearby before collecting a large amount of meat.

The complaint says Osman placed the meat inside a large plastic storage tote.

Osman then allegedly moved toward the produce and deli section.

Investigators say Osman continued directly toward the grocery exit without paying for the merchandise.

Police later contacted him near his vehicle outside the store, according to court records.

Steaks And Safe Among Alleged Theft

Walmart reported that the merchandise had a total value of $845.22.

The items allegedly included several packages of steaks and an electronic safe.

The 18-gallon storage tote was also listed among the stolen property.

Prosecutors allege the tote was used to conceal meat before Osman left the store.

The complaint does not allege that force or threats were used during the incident.

Gross Misdemeanor Charge Filed

Osman faces one count of theft involving movable property without the owner’s consent.

The charge is classified as a gross misdemeanor in the criminal complaint.

The complaint lists a possible jail sentence of up to 354 days.

It also lists a possible fine of up to $3,000.

The case is filed in Otter Tail County District Court as 56-CR-25-2295.
