Felton Chase at 127 MPH Leads to 7 Charges

Felton (trfnews.i234.me) — An Ada man faces seven charges after an alleged high-speed chase through Clay County.

Geoffrey Norman Kohoutek faces felony fleeing, two DWI counts, and four other charges.

Prosecutors say the August 1, 2026, incident began around 2:50 a.m. in Felton.

Radar Allegedly Shows 127 MPH

A Clay County deputy noticed a passenger vehicle entering Felton at a high rate of speed.

The deputy followed and used radar to measure the vehicle’s speed.

The radar allegedly showed 127 mph in a posted 55 mph zone.

The vehicle continued east toward Ulen, and the deputy temporarily lost sight of it.

The deputy later found the vehicle near Minnesota Highway 32 and activated emergency lights and a siren.

Prosecutors say the driver did not stop and instead accelerated north.

The pursuit continued at speeds above 100 mph, according to the complaint.

The vehicle eventually turned onto a gravel road and went into a ditch.

It continued through the ditch briefly before stopping.

Open Vodka Bottle, Two Pistols Alleged

The deputy ordered the driver to shut off the vehicle and drop the keys outside.

Kohoutek allegedly ignored commands and reached toward the passenger seat.

The complaint says he grabbed an open bottle of vodka and took a drink.

He then exited the vehicle and allegedly resisted efforts to place him under arrest.

Officers later searched the vehicle.

They allegedly found a black Taurus pistol with a loaded magazine inside a backpack.

A green .22-caliber pistol was also found in the rear of the vehicle.

Kohoutek is charged with carrying a pistol without a permit.

Breath Test Reported at 0.25

Investigators reported a strong odor of alcohol and bloodshot, watery eyes.

Kohoutek was transported to the Clay County Jail.

He agreed to a chemical breath test, according to the complaint.

The test reportedly showed an alcohol concentration of 0.25 at 4:35 a.m.

Kohoutek faces two gross misdemeanor DWI charges.

He also faces misdemeanor obstruction, speeding, and open-bottle charges.

The felony fleeing charge carries up to three years in prison and a possible $5,000 fine.

Readers can review Minnesota Statute 609.487 for fleeing laws.

DWI laws are available under Minnesota Statute 169A.20.

Minnesota’s pistol permit law is found under Minnesota Statute 624.714.

The charges are allegations and have not been proven in court.

Kohoutek is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
