Fatal Wrong-Way Collision on I-35W in Minneapolis Claims One Life

Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN (trfnews.i234.me)—On January 25, 2025, at approximately 5:51 a.m., a fatal head-on collision occurred on northbound Interstate 35W at Johnson Street in Minneapolis, Hennepin County. A 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by 25-year-old Cassidy Lee Groe of Lino Lakes, MN, was traveling northbound when it attempted to move from the left lane to the center lane. Simultaneously, a 2025 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by a 21-year-old male from Crystal, MN, was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes. Both vehicles collided head-on and came to a stop in the right lane.

The driver of the Chevrolet Malibu sustained fatal injuries. Cassidy Lee Groe was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC) with non-life-threatening injuries. Both drivers were wearing seat belts, and airbags deployed in both vehicles. Alcohol was not involved in the incident.

The Minnesota State Patrol is investigating the crash, with assistance from the Minneapolis Fire Department, Hennepin County Medical Examiner, and HCMC. Further information, including the identity of the deceased driver, is expected to be released later today.
